Ways of the Heart Youth Council (WHYC) is a national Indigenous youth-led circle.

WHYC was established in 2024 and is made up of Indigenous youth representatives from each province/territory/region. Our Council members are deeply dedicated to re-Indigenizing and decolonizing the institutions and spaces we share and promoting Indigenous youth mental wellness.

As members of WHYC, we advocate for Indigenous Youth by honouring culture as we guide the next seven generations, nurturing holistic mental wellness, amplifying youth voices, and creating accessible spaces for growth and belonging, all rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being.

The work done by WHYC is for Indigenous youth, by Indigenous youth, to ensure we get accurate information regarding youth wellness and involvement. By giving youth the space and opportunity to speak about their own experiences, we gain deep insights into

  • what is working to support mental wellness,
  • what is hindering mental wellness, and
  • what needs to change to meet the needs of youth.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • 18-29 years old
  • Must live in the land you claim to represent
  • Must provide proof of Indigenous identity
  • Must have available time to give towards projects
  • Must have interest in learning & mentorship!

We are still looking for youth representatives from these regions:

Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia
