The public outcry for the legalization of cannabis in Canada goes back decades. Court cases from as early as 2001 granted access to medical cannabis in Canada. With decriminalization and legalization of cannabis for non-medical use in 2018, First Nation communities have emphasized the need for federal, provincial, territorial legislation development. They have also stressed the importance of implementation to be in consultation with and inclusive of the specific needs and realities of First Nation communities.
